Round Rock city water is hard. About 249 parts per million, roughly 14.5 grains per gallon, which is a lot. That one thing is rougher on your equipment than anything else out here.

Forest Creek wraps around the golf course, and the pools here show it. Big back yards, old live oaks hanging over most of them, and a lot of houses where the pool came with the place. The neighborhood went in a piece at a time between 1996 and 2013. So you can walk two streets over and go from a pool built in the nineties and on its second pump to one that's barely ten and about to need its first salt cell. It's Williamson County, and it's the neighborhood we work out of, so we're on these streets constantly.

Harvey Penick Drive, Wilderness Way and the lots backing onto Forest Creek Golf Club. These are the oldest pools here, and the oaks along the fairways mean more leaf work than anywhere else in the neighborhood.

Plenty of pools here are still on tablets. Salt is easier to live with and gentler on the water, and with water this hard the cell needs cleaning on schedule either way. The dirt under Forest Creek is chalky and full of lime, and it's about a third to half clay. Clay doesn't soak up rain well, so when we get a real storm the water runs off fast and carries grit with it. Some of that ends up in your pool.
So two things. Your skimmer baskets and filter take a beating after a big rain. And that lime isn't just in your tap water, it's in the ground the whole neighborhood sits on. Our shop is off Red Bud Lane near Highway 79, which puts us inside the neighborhood rather than across town from it. Forest Creek Golf Club sits about a third of a mile from the pad, and Forest Creek Park is under half a mile. For most of the streets here the drive is short enough that traffic never really decides our day.
Once we turn in, the neighborhood splits three ways. Harvey Penick Drive and Wilderness Way run along the golf course and pick up the oldest sections, where the pools date to the first phases and the equipment has usually been replaced at least once. Forest Creek Drive carries north toward Gattis School Road and the newer streets. And Red Bud runs south to Old Settlers Boulevard and A W Grimes Boulevard, which is the stretch that connects us to Sonoma, Lake Forest Park and the rest of our Round Rock route.
The wider landmarks are close too, which matters more than it sounds: Old Settlers Park, Dell Diamond, Kalahari Resorts and Rock'N River Water Park are all inside a couple of miles, and the Brushy Creek Trail passes about a mile west. We work this corridor every week, so a Forest Creek call is rarely a special trip for us.
