Pool repair near Carmel Creek, Hutto, TX

Carmel Creek is about nine minutes from our shop, which makes it one of the closest neighborhoods we cover. It also sits on water that changes more through the year than anywhere else on our route.

THE WATER

What Carmel Creek pools are up against

Chemistry that behaved in April and won't behave in July, a salt cell that plates over, a filter that loads up faster than it should. Those are the calls from these streets, and they come back to one thing.

Hutto doesn't draw from one source. The city blends well water out of the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer with surface water bought from Lake Granger, and the mix shifts with the season and with demand.

The city's own water quality report puts total hardness anywhere from 41.8 to 369 parts per million, about 2.4 to 21.6 grains per gallon. That's not a rounding difference. At the bottom of that range the water is soft enough to go after plaster, and at the top it's harder than anything in Round Rock.

So a Carmel Creek pool isn't fighting one problem all year. It's fighting whichever problem the tap is handing it this month, and that's the argument for testing on a schedule rather than dosing to a recipe that worked last spring.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

The neighborhood between US 79 and Brushy Creek

Carmel Creek sits inside Hutto city limits, south of US 79 and west of Chris Kelley Boulevard, with Brushy Creek along the bottom and SH 130 running past the west side. That puts it in Williamson County, a short run from us.

It went in over several phases rather than all at once, which is why the pools here aren't all the same age. Some equipment is original to a house built more than fifteen years ago and some was installed last year, on streets a few minutes apart.

The street names are a giveaway about what this land used to be. Simmental Loop, Hereford Lane, Duroc Drive and Sorghum Drive are cattle breeds and a feed crop, and Nettle Swap and Stone Fork run through the middle of it.

WEEKLY CLEANING

Cleaning on Simmental Loop and the streets off Duroc

The lots here are open, and the newer sections have very little canopy, so leaf load is light compared with the older Round Rock neighborhoods. What you get instead is wind and dust off the fields east of Chris Kelley Boulevard.

Our weekly visit covers brushing, skimming, the basket and the filter, and a water test every single time. Given how far the hardness swings here, that test is the part of the visit that actually earns its money.

BUYING A HOUSE

Buying a house in Carmel Creek? Get the pool checked.

A home inspector will confirm the pump runs. That's not the same as telling you what the plaster has been through on water that swings this far, or whether the salt cell has been quietly plating over.

We inspect the pool on its own before you close, and you get photos and a plain list of what needs doing now against what can wait.

THE DIAGNOSTIC

Pool equipment repair across Carmel Creek

When something breaks the real question is whether it's a repair or a replacement, and nobody wants to guess at that.

So we charge a $149 diagnostic and you pay half of it to book. We come out, find the actual fault, and tell you what it could involve. If you go ahead with the repair the diagnostic is free and what you paid comes off the job. If you decide not to, you've paid $149 for a straight answer.

A pump that won't prime could involve a seal, an impeller, or a motor, and those are three different afternoons.

THE GROUND

Why the black clay under Hutto matters

This is the deep black clay side of our route, not the thin rock over limestone you get in Round Rock. It swells when it rains and shrinks when it doesn't, and it moves more than most people expect.

That shows up as cracks in decking and, now and then, as a plumbing line nudged out of true. At 633 feet the ground here's also flatter than anything west of us, so water sits rather than runs after a real storm.

QUESTIONS

Carmel Creek pool questions

Why does my water test differently through the year?
Because Hutto blends well water from the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer with surface water bought from Lake Granger, and the mix changes. The city's report shows total hardness from 41.8 to 369 parts per million, about 2.4 to 21.6 grains per gallon. A pool here needs testing on a schedule rather than a fixed recipe.
How close are you to Carmel Creek?
About nine minutes, a little over five miles, straight down Highway 79. It's one of the closest neighborhoods we cover.
My deck is cracking. Is that the ground?
Usually. This is deep black clay, which swells and shrinks with the weather and moves more than the rock further west. Hairline cracks in decking are normal here. A line that has been nudged out of true is worth looking at.
What happens on the day you come out?
We text when we're on the way. We look at the equipment and the water, find the fault, and walk you through what we found. Nothing gets replaced without your say-so, and you approve the price before any work starts.
Do you cover the newer phases too?
All of them. Carmel Creek went in over several phases, so pools here range from original equipment on older streets to systems installed last year. We work the whole neighborhood.

We're down Highway 79 most weeks anyway.

Want us to swing by your pool? Text us your address and what's going on. We'll figure out what it needs and what the fix costs. Then we make sure you're happy with it.
