Sun and soil sit behind nearly all of it. Taylor pools have a different problem list from the Hill Country towns west of us, and it's almost entirely down to sun and soil. Taylor is Williamson County, out on the eastern side of it.

Text Us What's HappeningMurphy Park is the middle of Taylor: the city lake, the ball fields, the aquatic center and the space where most of the town's events end up. Everyone here navigates by it.
It's the middle of our Taylor route too. From the park we're a couple of minutes from the historic downtown on Main Street, a short run north to Northpark, Avery Glen and Mallard Park where most of the newer housing sits, and west on Highway 79 toward the Grove at Bull Creek and Rob Roy.
Downtown is worth naming for its own sake. The brick storefronts are the real thing, and people drive out from Austin for barbecue on Second Street: Louie Mueller took a James Beard America's Classic award in 2006, the first Texas barbecue restaurant to get one.
We're based near the intersection at Red Bud Lane and Forest Creek Dr in Round Rock. Highway 79 runs straight east through Hutto and into Taylor, about fourteen miles and twenty minutes, with no highway changes and nothing to pay.
Highway 79 becomes the spine of the town and most of our stops hang off it. Main Street and North Main run through downtown and up toward Northpark. Carlos G Parker Boulevard loops the west and south sides, and FM 973 heads south out of town. Second Street and Fourth Street cover the older residential grid around the square.
Traffic barely registers here, with one exception: Highway 79 through Hutto backs up westbound in the morning and eastbound between four and six, so we run the Taylor leg mid-morning or early afternoon. Worth knowing that the Samsung site southwest of downtown is changing those patterns as it fills up.
Constant direct sun is hard on the things people forget are plastic. Pump lids, timer housings, valve handles and control panel covers all get brittle years earlier than they would on a shaded pad, and seals and o-rings dry out sooner.
Underneath, Taylor's ground is deep Branyon black clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry, which slowly works an equipment pad out of level and stresses rigid plumbing where it's glued. Taylor's water comes from Lake Granger through the Brazos River Authority and the East Williamson County Regional Water System. That makes Taylor the only city we serve drawing on the Brazos basin rather than the Colorado, which is worth knowing if you've ever compared notes with someone in Round Rock or Cedar Park and found your chemistry behaving differently.
The city doesn't publish a total hardness figure, so we test yours instead of borrowing a regional average. from a different watershed. We test your water instead.
The exposure is the part that actually costs you. Chlorine breaks down in sunlight, and a dose that holds for a week in a shaded Cedar Park yard won't last as long here, so stabilizer levels and consistent dosing matter more in Taylor than almost anywhere we go. Evaporation follows the same logic: an unshaded pool loses water faster, which is worth measuring before anyone goes looking for a leak.
Open prairie and full sun make this a calendar about chlorine and evaporation rather than leaves.
Summer. The hard season, and the reason most people call us. Sun from morning to evening burns chlorine faster than the label allows and drops the water line noticeably.
Winter. Taylor has the oldest equipment we see anywhere on the route, sitting on black clay that moves more than the soil west of here. That combination is why a freeze does more damage in Taylor than the temperature alone would suggest.

We could cover all of Central Texas. We'd rather cover a smaller area and know it, and Taylor is where the difference is most obvious.
Because we work Cedar Park and Leander in the same week, we can tell you plainly that a chlorine routine that holds under Hill Country oaks won't hold on an unshaded Taylor pool, and roughly by how much. We also test on Brazos basin water here and Colorado basin water everywhere else, which is a distinction nobody notices until their chemistry stops behaving.
